I would say you were whining if the heating wasn't broken. [Artemis calls into the bedroom from the hall. No, the fuses are well and truly fried. He needed A) better lighting so he could see what he was doing, and B) spare parts. He doesn't have either, so he supposes he's done playing mechanic for the night.]
[Sighing he walks down the hallway and into the bedroom. He's also in his jacket and (very fashionable) sweatpants, socks, and slippers. And a scarf.] No doubt the building manager will have spares, but I'm not going out there to get them now.
No, my manor has its own power grid. [After dropping the blankets on Rikku's bed, he collects a pile of old papers and books and starts walking back into their living-room area.] I've been waiting to do something like this. Bring the blankets.
We could do that. [Artemis unceremoniously dumps the lot into their (unused) fireplace, then starts patting his pockets for a lighter.] Just let me start this first.
[He looks at the books in the fireplace dubiously and steps aside.] Yes. With our luck, the smoke detectors have also gone on the fritz and we'd die of smoke inhalation.
I said "failed". It was supposed to smell like apples, but something mixed wrong and I wound up with apple pie. Couldn't even get rid of it at the club!
[It's no secret that Rikku spends every other Friday at one of the local gay clubs.]
[And Artemis has no problems with his roommate being openly gay--he is from California, after all. But Artemis doesn't go to any club of any sort, and hasn't even really talked about girls or boys or anyone he finds interesting. But he can guess that if Rikku thinks he could have passed it off to someone who wanted to smell like pie, but couldn't, it must have been fairly caustic stuff.]
Are we waiting for it to tell us if the chimney's blocked? Is it so strange that it has an IQ?

[He sulks a little]
At least the power's still working?
no subject
[And before he can say anything else, the power goes out. Of course. It's karmic law.]
...well. I suppose I didn't have to work on that paper anyway. [He moves to the closet and starts getting out some blankets.]

Does this happen in Ireland?

[Rikku obeys, grabbing a few pillows too]
Are we making a blanket fort? I make great blanket forts.

[Rikku sets the blankets down and starts getting two table chairs for the supports of the fort]

[Rikku shuffles off into his room and comes back with what looks like a failed chem experiment]
Smells like pie!
[He pops the cork on the bottle and sets it in the fireplace as a strong smell of apple pie wafts out of the bottle]
Give it a sec.
no subject
[Nope, he's too curious.] Why does it smell like pie?

And some of those guys'll take anything free.

Nope, we're good. Light her up!
